The Mergers & Acquisitions Review is updated annually. In this year’s update, the effect of the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act (FIRRMA) in nearly eliminating announced deals by Chinese buyers in the US is covered. FIRRMA is an amendment to CFIUS, the US investment review process for national security. Particular attention is given in the update to blocked M&A transactions by CFIUS in the semiconductor sector.

The chapter is authored by Wei (David) Chen, Managing Partner, Wang Yuan, Partner, and Kai Xue, Associate, all of the Cross-border Transactions Practice. The authors had the support of several other members of the firm from Cross-border Transactions and other practices: Tong Yongnan, Wang Guan, Wang Yuwei, Hu Tie, Zhang Xu, Shen Sisi and Dong Jie.
