DeHeng Assisted Leading New Energy Company in Winning Mass Tort in California, USA
2025-04-24
After nearly a year of proceedings, in April 2025, the presiding judge of the Superior Court of California, Los Angeles, signed an order formally approving the Motion to Quash filed by DeHeng’s client, dismissing a Mass Tort initiated by the plaintiffs against DeHeng’s client.
The tort litigation was initiated as early as 2021, involving dozens of American individuals and families, with an extremely high amount in dispute and complex involvement in U.S. criminal procedures. The defendants included dozens of publicly listed companies, multinational corporations, cross-border e-commerce platforms, and cutting-edge manufacturing enterprises from various jurisdictions, including the United States, China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.
The defendant company, represented by DeHeng lawyers, is a well-known enterprise in the new energy industry (hereinafter referred to as the “client”). In early 2024, the client was added as a defendant along with over 20 other corporate defendants, being drawn into this protracted class action.
Upon taking over the case, DeHeng’s lawyers immediately conducted a comprehensive review of the vast amount of evidence provided by the plaintiffs and engaged in intensive technical analysis with the client’s technical team, strictly examining the relevant debris data from the scene to determine the optimal litigation strategy and defense approach. Throughout the nearly year-long defense process, the DeHeng team adhered to the approved strategy, worked closely with the trial lawyers, and flexibly adjusted relevant statements and documents based on factual findings, ultimately achieving the satisfactory result of dismissing the plaintiffs’ lawsuit.
The DeHeng team, composed of lawyers Chen Xiao, Wang Rui, and Yang Fang from the Beijing Office, played a core role at several critical junctures that determined the outcome of the case, earning high praise and recognition from the client.
