DeHeng Lawyer Appointed as DAB Member of Ghana's Electricity Project

Mr. Huaiyuan JIA (William), partner of DeHeng's Beijing office and managing partner of DeHeng Middle East office, was nominated by a well-known Chinese engineering contractor as a member of the Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB) for its Electricity Project in Ghana's Kanda and Legon region. Mr. JIA will work with another adjudicator nominated by the American company, the Owner, and the presiding adjudicator jointly to settle all disputes to be arisen during the course of the implementation of the project.
This Electricity Project is funded by the US government's Millennium Challenge Corporation to Ghana government to facilitate poverty reduction through economic growth in an amount not to exceed Four Hundred and Ninety-Eight Million, Two Hundred Thousand United States Dollars (US$498,200,000). The Chinese contractor was awarded with the subcontract due to its sound international reputation, reliable equipment quality and extensive experience in international engineering construction, which shows the strong capability of Chinese equipment manufacture both at technical level and commercial level in international engineering and construction filed.
DAB is one of the most important mechanisms to settle disputes for construction project. Not only could it resolve disputes promptly during the implementation of contract, but also could further avoid potential international engineering arbitrations to the greatest possible extent. DAB is well known for its professional, efficiency, and cost-effective, and therefore is favored by international engineering contractors for dispute resolution.
It is very rare for Chinese lawyers to be nominated as adjudicator of DAB at international level before Mr. JIA was nominated this time. The nomination is an important manifestation of Chinese lawyers' professional and capability to dispute resolution in international engineering and construction projects and is recognized by its international counterpart.
