Mediation Center for the Belt and Road was Unveiled

On the morning of May 18, 2018, the inauguration ceremony of the Qianhai Court Mediation Office of International Commercial Mediation Center for the Belt and Road was held in Qianhai, Shenzhen. The unveiling ceremony was attended by more than 40 people, including Jiang Xilin, Director of Shenzhen Bureau of Justice; Wen Changzhi, President of the People's Court of Shenzhen Qianhai Cooperation Zone; and Wang Li, Director of Mediation Rules of International Commercial Mediation Center for the Belt & Road. Many media entities such as cnr.cn and Phoenix Television covered the event.
On March 8 this year, Qianhai Court, Beijing RETIO Legal and Commercial Service Center for Belt and Road Initiative, and BnR International Commercial Mediation Center signed the Agreement on Establishing a Diversified Dispute Resolution Mechanism Integrating Litigation and Mediation. It aims to coordinate mediation resource integration and mechanism for the goal of international and interregional dispute resolution. After the signing of the agreement, the two sides actively implemented the cooperation framework and explored the establishment of a joint mediation mode of "resident mediator + senior mediator". 26 experienced mediators carried out mediation at Qianhai Court. To date, they have accepted more than 30 mediation cases and successfully mediated 7 cases. Initial results have been achieved.
Qianhai is a "special zone in the special economic zone" and a "bridgehead" of China's new round of reform and opening-up. It undertakes the implementation of the national strategies including "Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone", "National Pilot Free Trade Zone" and Qianhai Bonded Port Area. It is also the only demonstration area in China for the achievement of socialist rule of law. The establishment of Qianhai Court Mediation Office of BnR International Commercial Mediation Center marks the deepened bilateral cooperation in the mechanism building. It is a measure to implement the Opinions on Building the Belt and Road Dispute Resolution Mechanism and Institution adopted at the second meeting of the Central Leading Group for Comprehensively Deepening Reform. In response to the judicial concerns and needs of commercial entities along Belt and Road, it can optimize the business environment, serve the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, serve the development of free trade zones, and serve the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
Model Clause for the International Commercial Mediation Center for the Belt & Road
"The parties hereby agree that any dispute or difference arising from or in connection with this contract shall firstly be submitted to the International Commercial Mediation Center for the Belt & Road ("the Center") for seeking settlement by mediation in accordance with its then effective mediation rules, which are to be automatically incorporated into this clause."
